Entrepreneur in focus

@ttagz

What made you want to become an entrepreneur?

For me it was the excitement of creating something that had the potential to transform user behaviour at scale, that’s the ultimate goal of ttagz. The idea of disrupting a market and building something from scratch is extremely motivating.

Why did you start @ttagz?

We started ttagz to help businesses grow their social media presence. Social media has become the digitised word of mouth. Getting people to post about your business can be hard, that’s why we’ve created ttagz. Now, every customer is an influencer for your business, and you can control what to offer and who to offer it to.

What would you say are the key elements for starting a business?

You have to love what you do, simple as that. I wouldn’t do this if I didn’t enjoy it because it’s hard work, long hours and right now, not very financially rewarding! I’m also obsessed with changing the status-quo and building something that changes the way people share their lives. The drive comes from knowing that the next big deal is around the corner. This is the case for B2B email marketing agency and ttagz

How did you finance your business?

We opted to raise seed funding from angel investors, plus we got some help from family and friends which bulked out our SEIS round. The co-founder and I are also following a strict ramen and coffee diet and trying our best to bootstrap as much as possible until we have real, tangible traction – I think this absolutely essential if you want to give people the confidence to back your idea, especially if, like ttagz, you’re trying to create something that has never been done before.

Did the pandemic impact your business?

We started our business during the lockdown and our early adopters are in hospitality which has been slower to recover than previously expected. Having said that, because of the deep impact of lockdowns on our early adopters, they have had to keep innovation at the forefront of their minds, which is, of course, good for us. We have not benefited from government grants.

The idea of disrupting a market and building something from scratch is extremely motivating.

What is the experience of growing a business in the UK?

I can say that UK is open to tech innovation, this is largely driven by SEIS/EIS, grants and other forms of growth driving tactics from the government aimed at promoting UK entrepreneurs. There are also several fantastic opportunities from start-ups offering office space and funding-in-kind for start-ups like us. All of this is to say that I’m encouraged by what I’m seeing and feel the at the framework is in place for new start-ups like ttagz to thrive.

What's next for @ttagz?

We’re in the process of developing our web app which will be the fully-fledged version of our tech. We’re also speaking with some big players in the hospitality industry to integrate ttagz into their venues UK-wide. We will continue on our mission to become the best influencer marketing tool for businesses.
